Currently playing with: Silent Duck, Superheroes of Rock
Usually found playing: Gibsons through Marshalls turned way up to loud in smoke filled, sticky floored pubs and clubs in and around Adelaide. My kind of work place.
Years on the fretboard: 21
How would you describe your playing style?
I grew up listening to a lot of Led Zepplin, Cream and Hendrix so a lot of that blues and rock comes out in my playing. I’ve studied jazz for about 5 years now so that side is starting to show its ugly head in the form of 13th chords and Mixolydian scales.
First axe:
Red Strat copy. Torch vintage. Basic but it served its purpose. I’ve still got it. You should never sell your first guitar, no matter how broke you are.
Current Axe:
Les Paul Standard, Les Paul Studio, Fender Stratocaster & Gretsch 5120.
Rig/pedals:
Marshall JCM 800 & JTM 45. I find that the BOSS DS-1 gives me the exact sound I need, so I have two on my pedal board, one a little louder than the other for solo’s. Jim Dunlop Cry Baby, BOSS super phaser, delay, octave, Pro Co Rat for different flavours at times.
Secret weapon:
Ernie Ball Beefy Slinkys. They hurt like hell but give me that thicker tone that can’t be beat.
Favourite guitarist of all time:
Too hard to choose a single favourite guitarist. Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Gibbons, Gilmore, Buddy Guy, SRV, Muddy Waters, Wes Montgomery.
Favourite current local player:
Facey Mcstubblington from The Beards (Adelaide), Dion from Deadly are the Naked (Melbourne), My brother Trevor is the ‘Malcom’ to my ‘Angus’ so I’d have to say he is my favourite guitarist to play with.
Current release:
Silent Duck by Silent Duck due out late 2011
